“I actually liked going to the dentist as a kid,” says hygienist Jennifer Aguilar, who grew up in the Bronx. “I would always get excited about the fluoride treatments. They were like a little treat at the end of the visit. It was those good experiences that first got me interested in dentistry.”

Jennifer’s first concern is making sure you feel comfortable and relaxed. “I like to make people laugh,” she says. “Sometimes I tell funny stories from hygiene school about how we’d have to practice on each other when we were learning. I think laughter helps a lot when you’re anxious.”

But she’s also going to help you achieve the best possible oral health. “Yes, I’m going to ask questions about brushing and flossing,” she says, “but I’m not going to pass any judgments. What’s important is that you came in the first place. There’s always a way forward.”
