Thorough, observant, and passionate—that's how hygienist Patrice Duncan describes herself at work. "When I was young," she says, "my mother always told me, 'whenever you do something, do it well.' As an adult, in my professional career, that is what stuck with me."
Patrice moved to the U.S. from Trinidad, where she studied under a dental nurse who taught her that when it comes to dentistry, trust is everything. "She was so mellow and at ease with her patients, and very big on education, and I try and do the same," she says. "The first impression is key. I want you to feel welcome, comfortable, and excited to come back."
And she's not here for judgment: "I'm not here to beat you down about your past. Today is a new beginning," she says. "You're here now, that's what's important, and we're going to take it from there."
