Born and raised in Brownsville, hygienist Robyn Turner says, “I’m definitely a Brooklyn girl. I grew up running to the corner store with my brother and sister on our summer breaks, eating too much candy. We were usually so good about brushing our teeth, but this one summer we all ended up with cavities. Our dentist was like, ‘What happened!?’”

But Robyn had been curious about dentistry since she was in elementary school: “I had this teacher who thought I would make a great dentist,” she says. “So I was exposed to it very young. I was never afraid. I was always looking into people’s mouths. I ended up becoming a hygienist instead, but he was happy to learn that I stuck with it after all these years!”

When she’s not teaching fitness classes on the side, Robyn is treating every patient as a potential new friend. “I think that’s what sets me apart,” she says. “I’m genuinely interested in getting to know you. It’s not a front, I’m just like that. As a hygienist, you’re literally in people’s mouths. It’s a very personal space, so it’s important to be with a person you feel comfortable with.”
