"I used to hate going to the dentist as a kid," says hygienist Sarah Dane Jimenez, who grew up in the Philippines, outside Manila. "I was afraid of the pain, and of being judged for what I was doing wrong at home. But I don't feel that way anymore. I know it doesn't have to be like that."
She knows that people have busy schedules, and that prioritizing something like flossing isn't always easy: "If you can't floss every day," she says, "try every other day! Work up to building a habit. We all come from different backgrounds, and have different experiences. There's no judgment here."
Sarah also prides herself on her ability to connect individually with her patients. "I think being comfortable starts with feeling connected," she says. "I want you to feel you can be yourself around me."
