What is a dental emergency?

A dental emergency is any dental issue requiring immediate professional treatment to prevent serious complications like excessive bleeding, severe pain, or infection. Common examples include a severe toothache, a cracked or knocked-out tooth, a lost filling or crown, or signs of infection like swelling or sensitivity.

These issues can worsen quickly if left untreated, so it’s important to see a dentist as soon as possible if you're experiencing dental pain.

At Tend, emergency care is designed to be fast, gentle, and judgment-free. Our studios are equipped with state-of-the-art technology that helps us diagnose and treat urgent issues efficiently, and our team is dedicated to tending to your family at every turn. With extended hours, same-day appointments, and studios open six days a week, we make it easy to get relief when you need it.

Inside the Tend emergency care experience

At Tend, we take a compassionate, personalized approach to every emergency case and tailor a plan to your needs. Our emergency dental appointments are available when you need them. Watch below to find out how one member’s visit went.

What happens at an emergency dental visit?

During your emergency dental appointment, we’ll prioritize quick pain relief and accurate diagnosis. Here’s what your visit might include:

  • Quick check-in and assessment

When you arrive, our team makes your comfort the priority. We’ll review what’s happening, help manage any pain, and get you settled right away.

  • Discussion of your symptoms

You’ll talk with your dentist about what you’re experiencing: when it started, what it feels like, and any recent changes. This helps us quickly identify possible causes.

  • Digital X-rays and exam

Your dentist will use advanced imaging and a gentle visual exam to pinpoint the source of the problem, whether it’s decay, infection, or injury.

  • Clear communication

Once we know what’s going on, your dentist will explain the findings in plain language and outline your treatment options, costs, and next steps.

  • Same-day relief and treatment

Whenever possible, we will address the issue during the same visit, whether that means repairing a filling, treating an infection, or relieving pain.

  • Follow-up care and prevention plan

Before you leave, our team will review how to care for your mouth at home and recommend any follow-up visits to keep your smile healthy and prevent future emergencies.

Prevent dental emergencies with routine care

Many dental emergencies start as small issues that go unnoticed, like a tiny cavity, a cracked filling, or early gum inflammation. Regular exams and cleanings, typically every six months, make it easier to catch these problems early, before they turn into something painful or urgent.

During your routine exams at Tend, our expert dentists use advanced imaging and gentle, thorough exams to monitor your teeth and gums closely. This proactive approach can help prevent sudden pain, infection, or damage so that your smile stays healthy, strong, and worry-free year-round.

  • It was great- I had some urgent issues that needed to be addressed and they were able to get me in, check with my insurance and verify treatment and give me a treatment plan beyond just the immediate needs- and the staff was lovely and it was clean and calm. Pretty ideal!

  • Had amazing two visits lately! One was a regular cleaning. The hygienist was very professional and thorough, yet efficient. It was 10/10 service. My second visit was an emergency appointment with vineer. I was able to book the spot the next day which can be challenging in other places. Again, the service I received was excellent. Everyone I met with were personable and made you feel welcome and looked after. The receptionist is great, too! What I love is they give you the exact amount you will pay based on your insurance. No surprises. Highly recommend trying Tend out.

  • It's not every day that a negative tooth experience turns positive, but when I came in for an emergency visit with a severe toothache I had such a good experience at Tend. They were able to get me in quickly, exam what the problem was, and get me in same day for an emergency root canal. Dr. Sukys was so kind, walked me through what was needed and helped me feel calm during a stressful process, and Gabriel helped me understand the potential costs associated with my treatment. I've been going to this location for a while and all the staff and doctors are so lovely to interact with. I'm now pain free and very thankful!

  • Absolutely amazing. They are gentle, warm, and reassuring. As someone who has dental anxiety, I felt fully at ease during an emergency root canal. I would recommend Dr. Patel especially. She is phenomenal and I am so thankful for them. Reception is so kind and sweet, and they truly want you to feel at ease. 10/10 would recommend to everyone.

  • I felt very well cared for at Tend Dental. They prioritized offering explanations and answering questions. They fit me in for a cavity filling the same day as my cleaning because they knew I was short on time. I was checked in on regularly, and being able to watch TV during the filling made the process feel quicker and more comfortable. Highly recommend. Some recommended procedures were expensive and not covered by insurance, but they made sure I spoke with a financial consultant so I understood the costs and could decline anything without pressure.
