Regular dental exams are essential for maintaining oral health, ensuring lifelong dental wellness for you and your loved ones. Early issues often go unnoticed without checkups, and plaque can accumulate even with daily brushing and flossing.
Skipping a dental exam might seem harmless in the moment, but issues like tooth decay and gum disease often develop quietly, without pain. At Tend, every exam includes a thorough assessment of your oral health and a complete hygiene cleaning. It’s an easy way to stay ahead of small concerns before they become bigger (and more costly) problems.
Your oral health also affects your overall health. Research has found clear links between gum disease and conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. This makes oral health an essential component of whole-body health.
When your teeth are healthy and strong, you feel it—every time you smile, eat, or speak. A combined dental exam and cleaning at Tend delivers lasting benefits: fresher breath, early detection, a cleaner smile, and the confidence that comes from staying on top of your health. For our younger patients, regular exams can lay the foundation for long-term dental health.
Regular dental exams help catch potential issues early. At Tend, dental exams combine a detailed, personalized evaluation with a thorough dental cleaning and a care plan tailored to your oral health. Check out one of our members' experiences in the video below.
What’s included in your dental exam?
Your dental exam includes a full evaluation of your oral health and a cleaning. During your visit, you can expect:
Comprehensive dental evaluation
Your dentist will assess the overall health of your teeth, gums, and mouth to identify any potential issues, like tooth decay or gum disease.
Digital X-rays (as needed)
These help detect cavities between teeth, bone deterioration in the jaw, impacted teeth, and other issues not visible to the naked eye.
Professional teeth cleaning
A licensed dental hygienist will gently remove any plaque and tartar buildup from your teeth, polish them, and floss thoroughly.
Gum disease screening
Your dentist will measure the depth of the spaces between your teeth and gums and check for signs of inflammation, infection, or bone loss.
Free oral cancer screening
A quick screening ($60 value) for peace of mind, completely gratis. Your dentist will check your mouth for any abnormal tissue or lesions that need further evaluation.
Personalized care plan
Based on your exam results, your dentist will develop a plan for your ongoing care. This may include things like fluoride treatment, sealants, or fillings.

Dental exams are all about promoting lifelong dental wellness. Here’s what you need to know before your visit, so you can feel fully prepared and confident in your care.
Yes! Zero judgment here. Whether it’s been six months or six years, we’re glad you’re making your oral health a priority again. We’ll meet you where you are and make sure you feel comfortable from the minute you walk in.
We focus on prioritizing what matters to you: quality, comfort, and cost.
Most dentists—and the American Dental Association—recommend a routine dental exam every six months. These biannual visits help catch concerns early and keep your mouth clean and healthy.
However, some people may need more frequent dental visits based on their oral health needs. You might benefit from extra checkups if you’re prone to cavities or gum disease, have a family history of dental issues, are pregnant, wear braces, smoke, or have chronic conditions like diabetes or autoimmune diseases.
Your dentist will create a personalized checkup schedule based on your unique health history.
Just a valid photo ID and your insurance card (if you’re using one). If you’re transferring from another dentist, having your previous records is helpful but not required. We can request them for you.
In most cases, yes. If everything checks out during your exam, your dental hygienist will go ahead and perform your cleaning during the same visit. If something unexpected comes up, we’ll talk through the next steps with you.
Regular cleanings and exams are vital to promoting lifelong dental wellness, so this is an essential part of your oral healthcare routine.
Yes, we do! We work with most major PPO insurance plans. If you’re unsure about your coverage, we’ll verify it ahead of your appointment and let you know exactly what’s included. Our team prioritizes insurance-friendly care, complete with clear claims, so you never get surprise bills.
If we identify an oral health problem during your exam that requires treatment, we’ll develop a personalized care plan for you and answer every question you have. We’ll go over treatment options, process, and costs, so you know what to expect at every step. Then, we'll schedule your treatment appointment for a date and time that works for you.
Yes, and they’re actually encouraged. Routine exams and cleanings are safe during all trimesters, and they’re a great way to prevent pregnancy-related oral health issues like gingivitis.
At Tend, we treat patients of all ages! Our family-friendly studios have been designed to offer modern dentistry and mindful care, from smoother booking to soothing studios. Give your kids the high-tech dental care you wish you’d had.
We kindly ask that you provide at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. The same policy applies to missed appointments.
We understand that unexpected circumstances can arise. As a courtesy, no fee will be charged for the first and second occurrences.
Beginning with a third missed or late-cancelled appointment, a $50 fee may be applied. For a fourth occurrence and any thereafter, a $100 fee may be charged.

Tend has been one of the best things I’ve done for myself (and I do a lot of great things for myself). Before Tend I had not been to the dentist since college.u reluctance came from shame, fear and not having dental insurance. When I finally got coverage with delta dental, I decided to book. I never felt embarrassment shame, or any negative feelings that’s most of us associate with the dentist. They made me feel like I had a plan of action, I understood the state of my mouth and smile, and I felt like I had full control over my own oral hygiene again. Today I had an existing cavity refilled after 20 years and it was such a quick and easy experience. Hanita was absolutely amazing and made me feel comfortable and safe. No long lobby waits, clear trajectory, clean facilities and you get to watch tv on the ceiling .. can’t beat that! I truly cannot recommend Tend enough if you’re looking to get take care of your teeth/gums, need dental work done or just want to watch an episode of ‘Love It or List It’ un interrupted.

Fabulous dentist, couldn’t recommend them enough!!! This place cares about your comfort and with everything they do they go out of their way to make sure you’re so comfortable!! They give you sunglasses when you’re laying down so the lights aren’t bothering you, give you wireless headphones & put on Netflix when you’re getting a cleaning I almost forgot where I was! I have never been so comfortable at a dentists office in my life. The staff is super nice and understanding & my teeth feel the best they ever have, no soreness from cleaning or anything! Thank you guys so much!!!
