How to take care of your new dental implant

Congrats on wrapping up your implant visit! Here's how to take care of your teeth's newest neighbor.

Dental implants typically cause a bit of discomfort as your mouth heals. This usually goes away after a couple of days. If an over-the-counter pain reliever doesn't do it for you, or if you're still uncomfortable after 48 hours, just get in touch.

For the first four weeks after your visit, make sure not to chew on the affected area or put any pressure on it at all. If you were given a temporary tooth, it's for show only and should not be chewed on.

For the first week, don't brush the affected area. Instead, gently swab it with a cotton swab soaked in the antibiotic rinse we prescribed you.

If we gave you a temporary tooth, don't floss.

If we prescribed you a narcotic or an additional antibiotic, use it as directed.

If you smoke or vape weed or tobacco products, you should abstain for at least a month.

We'll see you again soon for your follow-up visit!
